Movie Tavern is coming to Baton Rouge. The popular dine-in cinema plans to open not one but two locations in the Capital City this year.

Mike Wampold’s new hotel in downtown Baton Rouge will be a Marriott Autograph. The developer has recently revealed more details about the project, which broke ground earlier this year, at Convention and Third Streets. The new hotel will be called the WATERMARK Baton Rouge.

Developers plan to bring another apartment community in Baton Rouge. LDG Development, a Louisville, Ky.-based company, intends to build the new complex at the intersection of Airline Highway and Evangeline Street, in the city’s north side.

Baton Rouge is getting two more assisted living facilities. This month, two out-of-state developers announced their plans to start work on two such projects in the area.

The Greater Baton Rouge area has registered another important economic win. Gov. Bobby Jindal announced this week that Thermaldyne, a provider of environmental and industrial waste remediation services, plans to develop an indirect thermal desorption plant in West Baton Rouge Parish.

Shintech Inc., the North American subsidiary of Japan-based Shin-Etsu Chemical Co. Ltd., one of the largest PVC producers in the world, is getting ready to start on its third major expansion in Louisiana since 2008. According to Gov. Bobby Jindal, the company will invest $1.4 billion to supply its Iberville Parish facilities with new ethylene production capacity.

At this year’s TRENDS in Real Estate seminar, held at the L’Auberge Hotel, on April 16, the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors said that it expects the region’s office market to remain strong in 2015. As if to prove the GBRAR right, in the days following the event it was revealed that the market registered a spike in activity this month.

In recent months, several restaurants and bars have opened in the Baton Rouge metro area. And more are on their way.

Baton Rouge is getting a new hotel. According to The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, local real estate developer Mike Wampold has finally broken ground on the redevelopment of the 12-story the old Louisiana National Bank Building at 150 N. Third St., in the city’s downtown. He plans to turn the 88-year-old building into a 146-room hotel.

Mary Bird Perkins – Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center has once more joined forces with Woman’s Hospital in the battle against cancer. The two hospitals announced last week that they are teaming up to build a new cancer center in Baton Rouge and establish a new system of care that will promote a higher degree of physician collaboration, coordination and disease management for patients with breast and gynecologic cancers.
