Two Hospitals to Build New Cancer Center In Baton Rouge
Mary Bird Perkins – Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center has once more joined forces with Woman’s Hospital in the battle against cancer. The two hospitals announced last week that they are teaming up to build a new cancer center in Baton Rouge and establish a new system of care that will promote a higher degree of physician collaboration, coordination and disease management for patients with breast and gynecologic cancers.

Mary Bird Perkins–Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center has once more joined forces with Woman’s Hospital in the battle against cancer. The two hospitals announced last week that they are teaming up to build a new cancer center in Baton Rouge and establish a new system of care that will promote a higher degree of physician collaboration, coordination and disease management for patients with breast and gynecologic cancers.
The new facility will be called the Center for Breast & GYN Cancer. It will be located on Woman’s campus and is scheduled for completion in 2016. MBP – OLOL Cancer Center and Woman’s did not reveal any other details about the project, but they did release a list of potential services for the Center for Breast & GYN Cancer, including physician offices, diagnostics, outpatient surgery, infusion (chemotherapy) and radiation therapy.
MBP – OLOL Cancer Center and Woman’s will now establish an affiliation agreement to outline the relationship between them. They will put together a team to oversee the construction and strategic planning of the new facility. It will consist of hospital executives and medical staff leaders from both hospitals.
“As community healthcare organizations, we believe this system of care concept will be the most effective and efficient way to deliver the highest quality cancer care to women in the region,” Todd Stevens, president & CEO of Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, said in a news release. “Partnerships are an emerging trend in cancer care partly because of the complexity of the disease and the immense resources required for expert care. Together, we can attack breast and gynecological cancers from every angle, providing women with more choices and the best patient experience available.”
