Hotel Bennett Slated to Open in Charleston by Fall 2017

Charleston, S.C.—Bennett Hospitality recently announced its intention to open Charleston’s Hotel Bennett next fall. The hotel’s architects are Lindsay Pope Brayfield Clifford & Associates in Atlanta and Schmitt Walker Architects in Charleston. New York-based Fairfax and Sammons Architects are the asset’s design architects, the interior designer is signed by Design Continuum Inc. from Atlanta, while Balfour Beatty Construction is handling contracting duties. Bennett Hospitality will cooperate with Salamander Hotels & Resorts to operate the hotel.

Overlooking Charleston’s historic Marion Square, the new hotel will feature 179 suites, a restaurant, a bar and a lounge. Spanning more than 200,000 square-feet, the eight-story hotel will also incorporate a rooftop pool, a spa, ballroom and various meeting spaces. The construction broke ground in April 2015.

The hotel’s Kings Street site formerly housed the original west wing of The Citadel, South Carolina’s Military Academy. Most recently, it was home to the Charleston Library. Hotel Bennett will also include the city’s first classic Ladies Bar, which will feature a mirrored ceiling and pink marble from the former Charleston Library.

“I purchased this property more than two decades ago and the hotel is being constructed with the same classical character and quality as buildings from over a century ago. To complement the city’s architectural heritage, we are using the best materials, including beautiful limestone, marble, bronze and copper. Hotel Bennett will be viewed as one of the city’s enduring landmarks – when it opens and 100 years from now,” said Michael Bennett, the hotel’s owner and founder of Bennett Hospitality, in prepared remarks.
