Youth Tennis Facility Breaks Ground in Windy City
The $16.9 million investment will benefit students enrolled in XS Tennis’ program for Chicago’s public school youth.

Chicago—On Aug. 25, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and 3rd Ward Alderman Pat Dowell announced the start of construction of the XS Tennis Village—a 150,918-square-foot facility developed in partnership with XS Tennis.
The latter is a minority owned organization that provides Chicago youth with sports and educational opportunities. More than 4,000 Chicago Public School students will benefit from the project.
The new sports facility will incorporate amenities such as 12 indoor courts, a fitness center, running track, training space and classrooms. Its future location is the site of a formerly vacant Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) land in Washington Park. The land has been sold to XS Tennis LLC for $2 million, with an agreement of $2.6 million in commensurate benefits.
Additionally, $16.9 million will be invested in the project, with $2.9 million in TIF support. XS Tennis Village is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2017.
