Livonia, Mich.Schostak Brothers & Co. and Schoolcraft College of Livonia have teamed up to help Masco Corp. move from its massive home at 21001 Van Born Road off of I-94 in Taylor to a brand new headquarters building in Greater Detroit.

Earlier this week, the joint venture announced plans to develop a 91,220-square-foot office building that will become Masco’s new home starting spring 2017. Situated between Six Mile Road and Seven Mile Road, on the west side of I-275, the facility is located on about 12 acres of unused land on the college’s main campus in Livonia.

Masco’s intention to move to Livonia was announced in July 2015, as the company was seeing a serious workforce decline worldwide—down to around 30,000 from more than 60,000, and from about 700 to 250 employees based in Taylor—as pointed out by Observer & Eccentric. “The move to a new facility will provide a more collaborative space and is an important step forward for us,” said Keith Allman, president & CEO of Masco. “Over the past several years, we have better aligned our corporate center services with the requirements of our overall business and our individual business units. As a result, our corporate office is now too large and segmented for our leaner workforce.” The company’s Reasearch & Development Center will continue to operate in Taylor, according to DBusiness Daily News.

“This is certainly another exciting time in the history of Masco,” said Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) CEO Steve Arwood in prepared remarks. “The MEDC is working with leadership at Masco on the future reuse of their current headquarter space, which is an impressive 415,606 square feet.”
