Lincoln Harris Starts Vertical Construction on Charlotte Community

Charlotte-based Lincoln Harris is reshaping a former 190-acre golf course into a master-planned, mixed-use community in south Charlotte. Vertical construction is underway at Rea Farms in south Charlotte, N.C., where Life Time Fitness and Woodfield Investments are building a fitness facility and a luxury apartment community, respectively. Work is expected to begin early this summer on the development’s Harris Teeter-anchored retail village and a senior living community built by Greystar.

Located south of I-485, at the intersection of Providence and Ardrey Kell roads, Rea Farms will also feature Class A offices and a new K-8 school. A 90-foot Village Green at the center of the development will serve as a community events space. Life Time Fitness has reached the midway point of construction on its more than 200,000-square-foot Life Time Athletic Charlotte destination, which will include an indoor and outdoor aquatic center, tennis complex, full-service salon and spa, as well as healthy café.. Life Time expects to complete the center during the fourth quarter of this year. A preview center for prospective members will open onsite in May.

At the same location, Woodfield Investments recently started construction on its 455-unit luxury apartment community, which will be known as The Links at Rea Farms. The community will feature a variety of residential options such as apartment units over ground-floor retail, garden-style apartments and townhome apartment buildings. According to Yardi Matrix data, first units are expected to deliver in February 2018.

In just a few months, construction is expected to begin on a new, 76,000-square-foot Harris Teeter store that will anchor 210,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, largely on the east side of the Village Green. The new grocery store will replace an existing Harris Teeter store at the Rea Village shopping center along Providence Road.

Greystar plans to start construction in August on a five-story, 171-unit senior living community to be called Overture Providence. Built for residents age 55 and over, the community will feature 12,000 square feet of amenity space, a concierge and an activities director. First units will be available late next year. Moreover, CalAtlantic Homes plans to debut its first model homes at Rea Farms this fall. The company is planning to build 249 single-family homes and townhomes on the west side of the Village Green.

Recently, Lincoln Harris teamed up with Crescent Communities to develop River District, a 1,300-acre master-planned community along the Catawba River.
