Value of manufacturers’ new orders; not seasonally adjusted; $ in million

New orders for all manufacturing industries increased on a year-over-year basis by 6 percent or nearly $27 billion in May 2017. The most significant changes came from Primary Metals (14%), followed by an increase of 12.9 percent for Machinery. New orders decreased, compared to May 2016, only for Furniture and Related Products (-0.8%) and Computers and Electronic Products (-0.4%), while for the remaining industries, new orders have increased. Compared to April 2016, new orders increased for all industries except for Furniture and Related Products, which went down by 2.1 percent. The biggest gain was 8.4 percent for Electrical Equipment, Appliances and Components, followed by a gain of 6.9 percent for Fabricated Metal Products. The new orders for all manufacturing industries increased on a month-over-month basis by 4.4 percent or nearly $20 billion.
