GE Appliances Pours $1B Into Louisville Campus
The 6 million-square-foot global headquarters and production hub is set to become the largest home-appliance manufacturing site in the U.S.

GE Appliances is investing $1 billion into the expansion and upgrade of GE Appliance Park, its manufacturing campus and global headquarters in Louisville, Ky.
The Haier-owned company is set to expand its production across three facilities at the campus. Through this commitment, GE Appliance Park will become the largest home-appliance assembly plant in the U.S. based on fabrication output, employees and campus footprint. The investment program is being carried out in a partnership with IUE-CWA, the union representing employees within the campus.
The largest portion of GE Appliances’ investment—more than $400 million—will go toward the transformation of Building 5 into a high-output dryer manufacturing facility. As part of its broader manufacturing reshoring push, the company plans to relocate production from Mexico to Louisville, with operations expected to start in late 2027.

The modernization of Building 5 is expected to take between nine and 12 months. Refrigeration assembly at this property is set to end early next year as part of the transformation. GE Appliances will continue its refrigeration manufacturing at its other plants in Decatur, Ala., and Selmer, Tenn.
The firm is also investing roughly $112 million in Building 1, a facility dedicated to top-load washers and front-load dryers. Here, GE Appliances will add new equipment and redesign existing production lines.
The manufacturer is also directing $490 million toward Building 2, an investment previously announced in 2025. Plans call for the transformation of this property into an advanced laundry fabrication building with robotics and automated material-handling systems. Operations at the upgraded Building 2 are expected to start in 2027.
GE’s historic campus enters new chapter
GE Appliance Park is a 750-acre campus in south Louisville, encompassing more than 6 million square feet across five facilities. In 1950, General Electric purchased more than 900 acres of farmland for its future campus, with construction commencing at Building 1 in 1951 and official operations starting in 1953. In addition to production lines for washers, dryers, refrigerators and dishwashers, the complex houses GE Appliances’ corporate offices as well as engineering, distribution and warehouse operations.
The main campus address is 4000 Buechel Bank Road. It is close to interstates 65 and 264, providing regional connections through the Louisville metro area and to the Midwest and Southeast markets. The city’s international airport and the UPS Worldport air-cargo hub are both 7 miles away.
Once the investment program is completed, GE Appliance Park is expected to support 4,700 jobs, while employees will have opportunities to move into new positions as production ramps up next year. The repositioning of Building 2 is also expected to create 800 full-time jobs.
The investment builds on GE Appliances’ continued expansion in the country. Since 2016, the company has committed $6.5 billion across the U.S., including more than $3.5 billion already invested in its national operations and another $3 billion planned for the next five years.
Legacy plants and new manufacturers drive Louisville investment
The news comes as Louisville is seeing continued investment and interest across some of its longstanding campuses. In August, Ford unveiled plans for a nearly $2 billion investment in transforming its Louisville Assembly Plant into a next-generation EV manufacturing location. The automaker is revamping the 70-year-old plant with new systems, with the first vehicle expected to enter production next year.
New industrial construction is also underway. Anthro Energy recently broke ground on its first facility in the metro, a $40 million battery-materials plant expected to create 110 full-time jobs and support 390 construction-related positions. The project, also the company’s first in Kentucky, will produce advanced electrolytes for batteries used in automotive, consumer and defense applications.
