CyrusOne Buys Another Site in NoVa

Loudoun County, Va.—Major data center provider CyrusOne has purchased a 40-acre site at Kincora, a 6.7 million-square-foot mixed-use development in northern Virginia’s Loudoun County, the Dallas-based company announced Tuesday.

“Adding this new Northern Virginia location will not only benefit our growth trajectory, but is also vital to continuing to serve our Fortune 1000 customers along the East Coast,” Kevin Timmons, CyrusOne  chief technology officer, said in a prepared statement.

The company already operates a 129,000-square-foot facility in Sterling, Va., a little more than a mile east of Kincora along Nokes Boulevard, and reports that it is nearing completion on a second data center there.

CyrusOne did not reply to Commercial Property Executive’s request for additional information.

The so-called “Data Center Alley” in once-rural Loudoun County is generally considered to encompass such towns as Ashburn, Sterling and Tysons Corner. Northern Virginia reportedly is home to one of the world’s largest clusters of data center real estate, with up to 70 percent of the world’s Internet traffic passing through Loudoun County every day.

CyrusOne operates more than 30 enterprise-class, carrier-neutral data center facilities across the United States, Europe and Asia and serves nine of the Fortune 20 and more than 175 of the Fortune 1000.

Kincora was created when TRITEC Real Estate and Norton Scott LLC acquired and began to develop 424 acres along Route 7 and 28 into a 6.7 million-square-foot mixed-use community. The development’s master plan calls for millions of square feet of Class A office and retail space, three hotels, a cultural and science center, and 1,400 apartments and condominium homes.
