CPE Book of Rankings

Commercial Property Executive is pleased to offer a compilation of our past year’s popular rankings of top commercial real estate companies, separated by business category. Our rankings offer a uniquely balanced evaluation of company strength, based on a weighted formula including multiple variables. Each ranking is accompanied by analysis, along with never-before-seen performance charts derived from company-provided data.

The CPE Book of Rankings features comprehensive evaluations highlighting the leading names across five types of CRE entities. This resource includes rankings of top development companies, leading property owners, most important property management organizations, best-performing brokerage companies, as well as the top mortgage banking and brokerage institutions.

We’ll answer questions like:

  • Are top U.S. commercial real estate developers looking to accelerate or slow down growth of their pipelines?
  • How are the top CRE owners planning on expanding their portfolios?
  • What share of owner portfolios is green?
  • What regions are the top CRE developers most active in?
  • What direction are broker headcounts moving for top firms?
  • What asset types are top managers most specialized in?
  • Which are the fastest-growing commercial property management companies?
  • Which CRE asset types are providing the top U.S. brokerage firms with the most business?
  • How much of the originations pie are different CRE asset types taking?
  • How are origination volumes changing over time?

What do the rankings consider?

  • Top Developers takes into consideration factors including but not limited to current and future plans, market value of projects completed and under construction, as well as geographic and property diversification.
  • Top Owners considers total square footage owned, owned portfolio value, historic performance and property sectors breakdown, among others.
  • Top Managers looks at several factors, including the total square footage and number of properties under management, property operations—both owned and managed—and presence across property sectors.
  • Top Brokerages considers various factors, including a firm’s performance across several years and reviewed data that reflects investment sales and leasing activity, reflecting what we feel is a logical balance between firm growth and market share.
  • Top Mortgage Banking and Brokerage Firms considers factors including but not limited to total origination volume, coverage offered, growth in transaction volume and loan positioning.
