City Creek Center M-U on Track Despite Economic Downfall

Despite the economic downfall, City Creek Center is taking shape in downtown Salt Lake City. Deseret News reports all residential construction is now complete and the first 20 stores have been announced.

Dale Bills, spokesman for City Creek Reserve Inc., the real estate development division of the LDS Church, announced an official opening for residential component the Regent at City Creek of Oct. 1. The event marked an important milestone in the LDS Church’s transformation of two downtown city blocks.

The 20-story-tall Regent building is located at 100 South and has a modernistic design, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a stunning close-up view of the mountains and the city. There are 536 condominiums or apartments in total, ready for occupancy, and 30 percent have already been sold or rented. The prices of the condos range from $150,000 to more than $1 million.

Taubman Centers Inc. is developing the 700,000-square-foot retail portion and has announced the first 20 retailers. Scheduled to open next spring, it includes anchor stores Macy’s and Nordstrom, along with Coach, Brooks Brothers and Tiffany & Co.

The 23-acre mixed-used development will open its doors on March 22, 2012.
