Macon’s recent development milestones
Among notable companies at Airport South is First Quality, which operates a manufacturing facility and is one of the largest employers in the city. Established in Macon since 2008, the company expanded its plant in 2024 in a $418 million financial move, set to increase its manufacturing capacity by 50 percent. The new First Quality facility is totaling more than 1 million square feet and sits on about 70 acres within the Airport South hub.
Additionally, the Middle Georgia Regional Airport is currently undergoing an expansion and renovation project, representing the most concentrated investment in its history. These upgrades total more than $85 million and include an extension of the main runway to accommodate larger aircrafts, new hangars and upgrades to the airport’s electrical vault. In October last year, construction began on another new addition at the airport. Officials broke ground on a new executive terminal, a 15,000-square-foot guitar-shaped facility scheduled to reach completion in 2027.
