Washington, D.C.’s Dunbar High School is now one of the greenest new schools in the world. The school has recently received LEED Platinum certification. It is the highest distinction awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Jamestown LP announced last month the acquisition of a new office property in Washington, D.C. The investment and management company has purchased America’s Square, an iconic, two-building property, located in the city’s downtown.

The Arlington County Board voted unanimously last week, to approve the redevelopment of 1307 N. Rolfe Street. The project calls for the construction of two new residential buildings, a new public park and a new county transitional living facility. It is using the Fort Myer North Heights area plan as a guide.

The nine-story mixed-use office building at 1250 23rd St., NW, in Washington, D.C.’s West End submarket, is looking for new owners. Transwestern has recently announced it has been retained to market the property, which is currently fully leased, to a mix of tenants with an average lease term of more than 10 years.

Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III and other local and municipal officials were present in Brentwood, on Wednesday, February 18, for the demolition of the Plumber’s Building. The old facility at 3807 Rhode Island Avenue will make way for a new, mixed use building, with housing, retail and work space for artists.

Construction of the massive Museum of the Bible, D.C.’s newest museum, started this month with the surgical demolition of a 1982 addition to the historical building at 400 Fourth St. SW. The more than $400 million project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2017.

Two large multifamily properties in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area are now for sale. The Donaldson Group has hired Transwestern’s Bethesda-based Mid-Atlantic Multifamily Group to market Andrews Ridge, in Suitland, and Regency Pointe, in Forestville. The two properties offer a total of 1,091 apartment units.

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett joined numerous other local officials last week to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Public Safety Training Academy. The facility is part of Montgomery County Multi Agency Service Park, another of Leggett’s Smart Growth Initiative projects expected to turn a former industrial area near the Shady Grove Metro station into an urban village.

Toll Brothers Campus Living, a subsidiary of Toll Brothers, Inc., together with its joint venture partner, Ares Management, L.P., broke ground last week on a new, upscale student housing community in College Park. Called Terrapin Row, it will serve the students of the University of Maryland.
