Randall Lewis, executive vice president of the Lewis Group of Cos., has contributed $10 million to support Urban Land Institute’s sustainable land use programs. Following the donation, the largest in the organization’s history, the institute’s Center for Sustainability and Economic Performance has been renamed as the ULI Randall Lewis Center for Sustainability in Real Estate.

The contribution will help the organization concentrate its efforts in three main areas: confronting climate risk in housing, supporting healthier housing and workplaces solutions, and reducing carbon emissions in real estate.

Lewis, who is also governor of the ULI Foundation, previously donated $1 million to the Building Healthy Places Initiative and is a supporter of the ULI/Randall Lewis Health Mentorship Program, which encourages university students to become involved in the institute’s programs.

According to the ULI’s 2022 global sustainability outlook, advancing net zero strategies remains the most pressing issue. Navigating the reporting and measurement landscape, confronting climate risk, prioritizing existing buildings and focusing on building materials are also among the chief topics the organization is looking to address.

Last month, the institute created the ULI Chair’s Fund, kicked off by $17 million in inaugural donations from former Chairmen Douglas Abbey and Thomas Toomey, who each contributed $5 million, and former ULI President James Klingbeil, who donated $7 million.
