Target Corp.Chooses Memphis for the Development of $50M Online Fulfillment Center

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam, Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty and Target Corp. announced that Memphis has been chosen for the development of a new, 900,000-sq.-ft., online fulfillment center.

Target will be investing almost $50 million in the new facility, which will bring more than 400 jobs to Shelby County. The new facility, which has been slated to be operational by mid-2015, will be managed by Innotrac and will service the Southeast United States. Hiring is set to begin early 2015.

“We want to welcome Target to Tennessee and thank the company for investing in our state and adding more than 400 jobs to our Memphis workforce,” Haslam said. “It goes without saying that a company like Target can choose to do business anywhere in the country, so it means a great deal that they chose Memphis. We are always grateful for announcements like these as they help us toward our goal to make Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high-quality jobs.”

Memphis has been chosen by Target following a multi-state analysis, which underlined the region’s various benefits such as its competitive costs, availability of workforce, real estate, local and state support and accessibility. Commissioner Bill Hagerty also factored in Tennessee’s central location, excellent transportation and logistics industry and its convenient access to the Memphis International Airport.

“The fact that Target chose Shelby County to apply for local incentives shows that Shelby County continues to be competitive for some of the biggest distribution projects in the country,” Shelby County Mayor Mark H. Luttrell, Jr. said. “Through the EDGE board, we look forward to working with Target to bring these new jobs to Shelby County.”
