Skanska Plans Major Facelift for Tampa Riverfront Park

Tampa, Fla.—Skanska USA recently announced it will renovate and expand the Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, a 23-acre park in Tampa.

The $35.6 million reconstruction project will include open green spaces for outdoor activities and walkable paths along Hillsborough River, improvements and reconfigurations to the existing seawall as well as to the floating docks to provide water access for kayaks, boating and aquatic sports.

The expansion project will also feature the River Center Building, adjacent to Hillsborough River, along with several other new amenities such as tennis courts, basketball and sand volleyball courts, a multi-use football field, areas for lacrosse and soccer, as well as a performance pavilion and green spaces for concerts.

“This represents one of the biggest projects to take shape in West Tampa in decades and one that will benefit the entire region as residents and visitors will get to enjoy this public space for years to come,” said Chuck Jablon, SVP at Skanska USA Building, in prepared remarks. “The park’s renovation and expansion will bring new life to the waterfront with sports, entertainment and aquatic activities that the entire community will get to experience.”

Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park is situated in West Tampa, adjacent to the University of Tampa campus, and will serve as an urban oasis for the city once completed by the end of 2017.

Skanska recently secured a $62.7 million contract to build a research and education facility on the Johns Hopkins Medicine All Children’s Hospital campus in St. Petersburg.
