Simon Property Group has partnered with Electrify America to open 10 DC fast chargers at San Francisco Premium Outlets in Livermore Valley for public use. The installation marks California’s first location for electric vehicle charging systems featuring fast recharging speeds up to 350 kilowatts (kW).

The charging site at San Francisco Premium Outlets consists of eight 150kW and two 350kW. The 350kW chargers are capable of recharging an electric vehicle at 20 miles per minute, providing 200 miles of vehicle driving range in just 10 minutes. In addition, the 10 Electrify America chargers are co-located with 20 Tesla Superchargers, which makes San Francisco Premium Outlets one of the largest multi-standard fast charging sites.

“We are delighted to be the first location in California to offer EV owners the fastest charging option available in the U.S.,” Jamal Porter, west regional vice president of management for Premium Outlets, said in a prepared statement. “Our customers expect a premium experience and these fast chargers offer the latest technology to provide a convenient, reliable and quick recharging experience.”

Electrify America will install charging systems at Simon locations nationwide, including 17 centers in California. While these preparations reflect Simon’s interest in the practical reality of the EV market, the cars that can use the 350kW chargers aren’t here yet. Porsche’s Mission E project is anticipated to arrive no sooner than 2020, while the existing Audi E-Tron cannot handle more than a 150kW charger.
