Santolina’s Level A Land Use Plan

The Santolina master plan approval process has involved 12 public hearings, two workshops and multiple open houses and meetings. After 22 months, this new west side development is getting closer to receiving the “okay” from Bernalillo County commissioners.

The commissioners have voted to pass a series of zoning changes and to approve the “Level A” master plan associated with the project. However, the grand finale has not been reached; the third and final piece, the “developer agreement” hearing, will take place on June 24.

This final voting in favor of Santolina is what the project needs to start. The 13,000-plus-acre master planned community would stretch from Atrisco Heritage School to the Metropolitan Detention Center, and along Central and I-40.

The developer, Western Albuquerque Land Holdings, has previously announced that the project will be built with no net expense to the country. Should the project be fully-realized, Santolina would become New Mexico’s second or third largest city rivaling Las Cruces in population.
