Ashburn, Va.—RagingWire Data Centers and its parent company NTT Communications are planning to invest $160 million in building a third data center in Ashburn. The upcoming 245,000-square-foot VA3 Data Center has been unveiled at the Gartner Data Center Summit in Las Vegas and represents phase one of the development of RagingWire’s Data Center Campus, a 76.5 acre site that will accommodate six buildings.

The VA3 is scheduled to open by the end of 2017 and joins the VA1 and VA2 Data Centers, which are also located in Ashburn. VA3 will offer customizable private suites available in 2 MW and 4 MW increments, dedicated infrastructure options including patented 2N+2, N+1 and 2N configurations, high-security gated entrance with an anti-climb perimeter fence, Class A customer office space, 24×7 in-house security staff for shipping and receiving and world-class customer amenities including lounges, a break room, a game room, a gym, locker rooms and showers and conference rooms.

The combination of the three creates a data center footprint of more than half a million square feet of space and 44.4 megawatts of power. VA1 is located just outside Washington, D.C., offering 290,000 square feet and currently anticipating the development of an extra 2 million feet. The facility operates 14.4 megawatts, and is largely devoted to wholesale and retail clients. The most recent data center at the campus was VA2, a 140,000-square-foot facility with 14 megawatts of high density power.

RagingWire’s business prospects have massively increased since NTT’s acquisition of 80 percent of the company three years ago, a boost which quickly led to the establishment of VA1 and the Virginia campus. The company also has data centers in California and Texas, as well as NTT’s global data center services platform operated under the Nexcenter brand.
