CSL Plasma Inc., has opened its first Mid-Atlantic plasma donation center at Cromwell Field Shopping Center in Glen Burnie, Md.

Located at 7379 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd., Cromwell Field Shopping Center is a 233,486-foot shopping center that is anchored by Giant. The property is managed by Klein Enterprises.

“CSL Plasma was in search of a Mid-Atlantic location with a strong connection to the community and convenient access to the center for potential donors,” Michael Klein, Klein Enterprises’ CEO, said in a company release. “The Cromwell Field Shopping Center in Glen Burnie is a perfect match because of its close proximity to the Light Rail, the BWI Business Corridor and Baltimore City.”

A recent report by Deloitte said aging populations, chronic/lifestyle diseases, emerging-market expansion, and treatment and technology advances are expected to spur life sciences sector growth in 2015.

In the report, Homi Kapadia, Deloitte LLP’s Life Sciences leader & vice chairman, said growth in the life sciences sector—comprised of the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical technology segments—is closely tied to economic and demographic drivers that fuel a continual transformation of the broader healthcare industry.

“Life sciences companies have demonstrated their ability to survive and thrive amidst recent periods of economic recession, healthcare spending cutbacks, geographic market swings, and changing population profiles,” he said. “If history is any indication, 2015 will again test the sector’s ability to adapt in an era of transformation.”

Furthermore, the industry is performing well overall. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that life scientists and engineers will remain in demand through 2020 in the U.S., with 23.1 percent and 10.6 growth, respectively, between 2010 and 2020.

Patricia Palumbo, broker and director of leasing with Klein Enterprises, represented the landlord, Cromwell Field Associates, L.L.P.; and Chethan Rao and Jeffrey Maza, of DTZ, represented CSL Plasma in the transaction.
