Peet’s Coffee to Build $58M Facility in Hampton Roads Area

Suffolk, Va.—Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe has announced that Peet’s Coffee will invest $58 million to establish a manufacturing facility in Suffolk. The 175,000-square-foot Hampton Roads-area location will be the company’s second roasting facility and the first on the East Coast.

“With the Port of Virginia being one of just two ports on the East Coast that has received ICE certification as an exchange port for coffee imports, Virginia is in a prime position to help Peet’s Coffee quickly distribute its product to more than half of the U.S. population,” said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Todd Haymore in prepared remarks.

The efforts to secure the project for Virginia were spearheaded by the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the City of Suffolk and the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance. Peet’s Coffee will benefit from several incentives, including a $1 million grant from the Commonwealth Opportunity Fund, sales and use tax exemptions on manufacturing equipment, and training activities support through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.

The company’s only current roastery is located at 2001 Harbor Bay Parkway in Alameda, Calif., and is LEED Gold-certified. According to Property Shark, the facility’s main building was constructed in 2006 and spans 138,196 square feet over two stories.
