Sustained by a healthy demand, an increasing number of student housing projects will soon come online in Indianapolis.

One of these is a new three-wing apartment community with 88 units, which is nearing completion at the Marian University campus on the west side of the city. According to the Inside Indiana Business, the $10 million four-story rental housing complex known as the Overlook at Riverdale will cater to medical and graduate students.

The university announced the project in February 2014, after conducting surveys with students in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, who indicated a desire to live on campus.

The new complex has replaced Alverna House (a faith-centered living and learning community for undergraduate students) on the northwest corner of the campus, overlooking the Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab. Construction began last August, and the opening date has been set for July 24 or sooner.

The Overlook at Riverdale features a mix of studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units, some of which include outdoor living space. Interior amenities include fully-equipped stainless steel kitchens, granite countertops, washer and dryer in each unit, 24-hour private study rooms with white boards and large-screen TVs. Residents will also have access to ample reserved parking, a fitness room, an outdoor courtyard, fire pit and grills.

Other recently announced student housing projects in Indianapolis include the 248-unit, 535-bed apartment development near the downtown IUPUI campus or the 60-unit campus apartment complex at Shelby Street and National Avenue. These developments are scheduled to open in time for the Fall 2016 semester.
