OMP, YouthBuild Paid Internship Helps Unemployed Young Adults Rebuild Their Future
The program aims to help unemployed young adults gain new skills and find jobs in the construction industry.

Los Angeles—California-based Overton Moore Properties has teamed up with YouthBuild to create a construction internship program to support unemployed young adults who want to learn about the construction industry and eventually develop high-paying careers in the sector.
Designed as a paid construction internship, the program targets unemployed low-income young adults aged between 18 and 24 who left high school without getting a diploma. The OMP-YouthBuild partnership will provide these young adults the opportunity to gain all the necessary skills for employment in the construction industry by participating in OMP’s new construction projects currently underway in Southern California.
By taking part in the internship, young adults can earn up to $80,000 in cash incentives by attending workshops and specialized training, and have access to construction certifications such as MC3, Osha 10 & 30, First Aid CPR and HAZMAT. The interns will also receive assistance with job placement upon completion and will receive an accredited high school diploma if needed.
OMP worked with General Contractor Millie and Severson, KCB Builders and Inland Concrete Constructions to implement the internship. Six interns have already been hired from the YouthBuild Charter programs in Compton and Pacoima, Calif. Four of them will be working for the Point at Simi Valley Business Center, a 142,000-square-foot, four-building development project. The remaining two interns will work at a 102,000-square-foot speculative industrial building that is currently under development on 135th Street in Gardena, Calif.
“This provides important exposure for YouthBuild students. This is a workplace-based learning experience they understand what it takes to have a successful career in the construction industry. YouthBuild appreciates this partnership with OMP,” said Daryl Wright, vice president of YouthBuild USA, in prepared remarks.
