Oden Hughes LLC broke ground on a massive 57-acre mixed-use development in Far North Central San Antonio. The unnamed project will be built in three phases, with the first phase comprising a 338-unit Class A luxury community and nearly 16 acres of commercial property.

The site is located at the northwest corner of Loop 1604 and Bulverde Road and was previously owned by the H-E-B Grocery Co. Situated directly across the highway from a recently opened H-E-B store, the property is within a short drive from notable employers such as Tesoro, iHeart Media and the Methodist Stone Oak Hospital.

The Austin developer will build, own and manage the apartment community, but intends to sell the commercial segment in 2018 as soon as site work and infrastructure, which includes a new street through the site connecting Loop 1604 and Bulverde Road, are completed. A site-plan prepared by the developer shows two hotels of 2.8 acres each, two retail locations of 1.5 acres and 1.7 acres respectively, as well as an assisted living facility. The first residential component is also slated for completion in late 2018 and will feature a two-level pool with waterfall edge, fitness on demand room, running trail and dog park.

The general contractor for the multifamily development is Oden Hughes Construction, Kelly Grossman Architects worked on the design and Oden Hughes Management will handle the leasing and operations processes at the apartment community. Once the third phase is completed, the project is expected to total up to 1,000 residential units.

“This is a prime location for residential and commercial development in one of the fastest growing parts of San Antonio,” Oden Hughes Vice President of Development Tim Shaughnessy, said in a prepared statement. “The new H-E-B has significantly increased traffic to this immediate area, and we think this site is primed to be the next retail hub. The property is also served by some of the best schools in all of San Antonio.”
