NuStar Energy will lease 15,500 square feet of office and lab space at Brooks City-Base. That follows its recent plans to lease 2,500 square feet of laboratory space for a $41 million refinery, as reported by CPE City Pages.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, the Brooks Development Authority recently approved the lease of 2,500 square feet of lab space and 13,000 square feet of office space on the local campus. The company’s representatives were very happy with finding the space in the proximity of the recently purchased refinery. Brooks is only minutes away from the refinery, which processes 14,500 barrels per day of crude oil.

The Brooks City-Base–a former military installation–is a rapidly developing area on the south side of San Antonio. Besides the community’s industrial developments, Brooks also offers opportunities for housing, retail, and office and laboratory projects.

In other news, Safety Management Systems, a company that trains workers in oilfield safety, has opened a regional office in San Antonio. With investment plans underway for some major oilfield companies in the San Antonio area–including Halliburton Co., Schlumberger and Baker Hughes–the need for training workers in the field is particularly necessary. The company plans to train roughly 10,000 safety and health workers every year, according to San Antonio Express-News.
