NorthMarq has announced that Mike Scott, senior vice president for retail, is retiring after 40 years. Scott was a leader in the advancement of the concept of shopping malls. As Dayton-Hudson Properties vice president of leasing for regional shopping center development in the 1970s, he was instrumental in getting tenants to commit to several Minneapolis shopping malls including Southdale, the first enclosed shopping mall in the country. Scott is the first-ever recipient of the Minnesota Shopping Center Association’s President Award for outstanding contributions to the industry. Spending his career in retail development, leasing and tenant representation, Scott recently completed his 15th year with NorthMarq. His experience also includes 11 years with Dayton-Hudson Properties and 14 years as a partner with Jackson-Scott and Associates, where he specialized in retail management, leasing and site selection.Among the list of retail clients that Scott has represented: The Gap, Old Navy Clothing Co., T.J. Maxx, Target Stores, Famous Footwear, Hard Rock Café, Toys ‘R’ Us, Linens ‘n Things, Paper Warehouse, Stein Mart, Marshalls, Pottery Barn, Eddie Bauer, David’s Bridal, AMC Theatres, HomeGoods, TJ Maxx ‘n Home, Lane Bryant, Foot Locker and Bloomingdales. Scott has served as director of the Minnesota Shopping Center Association (MSCA) and is an active member of both the International Council of Shopping Centers and the MSCA.
