White Lodging has broken ground on the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Fort Wayne Downtown. The owner anticipates the 136-key Fort Wayne, Ind., property will open in summer 2019. In February, White Lodging began work on another hospitality development, the 613-key Marriott in Austin, Texas.

Located at 226 W. Jefferson Blvd., the project sits adjacent to Fort Wayne’s Parkview Field baseball stadium, with the 225,000-square-foot Grand Wayne Convention Center directly across the street. The new hotel will rise next door to a Courtyard by Marriott, developed by White Lodging in 2010. The firm acquired the nearby 0.3-acre development site from the city in May, according to public records.

Plans for the hotel call for a mix of guestrooms and suites. The building will offer a wide range of amenities, including a rooftop bar overlooking Parkview Field, a 24-hour business center, a rooftop fitness center and complimentary Wi-Fi. A neighborhood-style restaurant with a walk-up window, Burger Bar, will operate out of the ground floor.

“Adding an additional hotel and increasing our room capacity will have a tremendous impact on our community,” said Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry in a prepared statement. “As a point-of-destination city, this new development will enhance our ability to assist with our growing convention and tourism opportunities and provide guests with a memorable experience in Fort Wayne.”
