NCC Construction Denmark has received a 115.3 million construction contract to build an apartment complex in Aarhus, Denmark.

Inspired by Dutch-style port warehouses, the 400-unit apartment complex dubbed as Havneholmen will be built in three stages at the Port of Aarhus

“We are delighted to have secured this construction contract, where NCC will contribute to the continued expansion of the port area close to Aarhus city center. This project will be beautifully located adjacent to another previously NCC built project – the Iceberg,” said Klaus Kaae, country manager of NCC Construction Denmark.

The developers of the project are Topdanmark and Pensam, with Kromann Reumert and Niras serving as advisors. NCC as the turnkey contractor for Havneholmen will have Cowi and architects C.F. Møller as its advisors.

A groundbreaking ceremony is imminent after the plan for the area recently received final approval. The first stage of the project is scheduled to be ready for initial occupancy in the fourth quarter of 2015, while the latter two stages are scheduled for completion in 2016.

Havneholmen will incorporate numerous sustainable solutions such as the usage of environment-friendly materials, energy-efficient fittings and heat-exchange ventilation. The development aims to attract a diverse mix of residents by offering both small two-room apartments as well as larger family apartments with five rooms. Residents will have access to the harbor front, green spaces and many communal areas.

“This is a modern building in every way. It meets many modern-day requirements for sustainability, taking everything into account from energy consumption during construction to creating rooms that facilitate the lifestyle of residents, both young and old,” said Palle Bjerre Rasmussen, director at NCC Construction Denmark.

Havneholmen from an architectural point of view will complement the iconic shape of the neighboring Iceberg complex, which is also being built by NCC. Both projects will feature white, polished concrete as the dominant façade material and together the buildings aim to become a distinctive part of the harbor environment.
