Marriott International Announces Plans for Tallest Hotel in New York

One of the most daring real estate developments will take shape at 1717 Broadway at 54^th Street in Manhattan. In an official statement released this week, global hotel chain Marriott International and Granite Broadway Development announced their plans to build New York’s tallest stand-alone building that would eclipse the 52-stories Four Season, which currently ranks as the city’s tallest hotel. As announced in the press release, the expected opening date is scheduled for late 2013.

According to the Epoch Times, the new building will be designed by architect Nobutaka Ashihara, who also designed the Lexington House Hotel, and it will be 68 stories, or 752 feet and 9 inches high. It has been revealed that the site will house two Marriott hotels—a Courtyard and a Residence Inn sharing the main entrance and the lobby on the 54^th Street, as well as retail and restaurant space.

The Boston Globe reveals that the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel will be located on floors 6 through 32 and will feature 378 rooms equipped with standard facilities and a shared fitness space on the 34^th floor. The Residence Inn by Marriott Hotel, designed for extended stays, will be located on floors 36 through 64 and will have 261 rooms offering suites and full breakfast, free high-speed internet, grocery delivery and laundry facilities. Both hotels will share a fitness center on the fourth floor, while the fifth floor will offer a lounge and a terrace overlooking Broadway.
