Linthicum Finalizes Redevelopment of 95,000-Sq.-Ft. Hotel in Downtown Tucson

Linthicum recently completed the 10-month renovation of the Aloft Tucson University hotel in downtown Tucson, a former Four Points by Sheraton property.

The seven-story, 95,000-square-foot hotel was repositioned and re-branded as an Aloft hotel, and now boasts 154 spacious, loft-like rooms, leading-edge technology and a buzzing social atmosphere, according to an AZRE story.

Owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Aloft Tucson University is part of the company’s global growth strategy and one of several successful Aloft conversion projects including Aloft San Francisco Airport, Aloft Nashville West End and the award-winning Aloft Dallas Downtown – an adaptive re-use project that transformed a historic railroad depot into an Aloft hotel.

“We are thrilled to debut the Aloft brand in Tucson, a vibrant city for both students and young professionals who appreciate the Aloft brand’s style aesthetic and buzzing social scene,” said Brian McGuinness, senior vice president, Specialty Select Brands for Starwood, in a release. “Conversion projects like this one are becoming an increasingly important growth channel for the Aloft brand, allowing us to enter even more markets, more quickly as we move closer to the 75th hotel milestone.”

The revamped hospitality outfit is located at 1900 E. Speedway Blvd, within close proximity to shops and restaurants, corporate offices and entertainment destinations, including Centennial Hall, TCC Music Hall and the University of Arizona. Amenities include an outdoor pool, a w xyz sm bar, a 24-hour fitness center and 1,723 square feet of flexible meeting space.

In other downtown news, the Arizona Daily Star reports that Gangplank Tucson, a nonprofit collaborative work space, has moved its offices to a premier location at 100 N. Stone Ave., in the Pioneer Building, Suite 110.

Gangplank’s new headquarters provides 8,000 square feet of office space and an additional 2,000 square feet of undeveloped space in the basement which may be converted into audio and video studios.
