One of New Jersey’s largest nonprofit community organizations has a place to call home. The Leaguers, Inc., which provides services to nearly 1,000 preschool-aged children as well as adults and families, has had its Newark, New Jersey headquarters completed to the tune of $23.5 million.

McGowan Builders, Inc. worked as general contractor on the 100,000-square-foot headquarters and Head Start building at 405-425 University Avenue. A steel two-story structure, it features a metal façade with a white brick veneer, blue-tinted window glass, and multicolored glass accents. It was built to accommodate a future third floor if needed.

At 35,000 square feet, the first floor will house The Leaguers’ Head Start preschool, while the 22,000-square-foot second floor will contain the group’s executive and administrative offices.

The property was financed through the Federal New Market Tax Crdit, with participants including Boston Community Capital, Stonehenge Community Development, L.L.C., and Nationwide Insurance Co.
