ONE Ala Moana Luxury Condominium High-Rise Breaks Ground
Construction has begun on the “ONE Ala Moana” luxury condominium tower in downtown Honolulu. According to the Pacific Business News, Albert C. Kobayashi Inc. has been appointed general contractor for the 23-story, 206-unit residential high-rise. The project’s developer, HHMK Development, made the announcement on April 5th during a traditional Hawaiian pre-construction blessing ceremony held at the site of the new development. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2014.

Sky Harbor Launches $1.58B Automated Rail System
Sky Harbor celebrated a major milestone with the opening of the $1.58 billion PHX Sky Train system on April 8. Striving to provide a seamless travel experience, the electrically-powered, automated train will operate 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, transporting passengers between the 44th Street and Washington METRO light rail, the East Economy parking area and the 88-gate Terminal 4, which handles 80% of the passengers at Sky Harbor.
Providence Station on Track for $5.7M Renovation
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is planning a $5.7 million makeover of the Providence railroad station. The facility serves over one million Amtrak and Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority passengers every year.
During a ceremony held at the facility on April 15th, Governor Lincoln D. Chafee and other State and Federal leaders unveiled details of the renovation project. Plans call for an improved physical appearance of the station, as well as the reconstruction of pedestrian and vehicular access. Construction is expected to begin this summer.
$30M Oviedo Multifamily Community Now Underway
Oviedo, Fla. will soon add 275 residential units to the local inventory, as Jacksonville-based LandSouth Construction has started construction on the $30 million Park Place Apartments and Oviedo on the Park.
New Development in City’s Arts District Set to Reopen Market for Condo Homes
The Barker Block condo development will become the first new for-sale development in the city for quite some time and will offer 309 residential units to potential buyers in the Arts District. The final phase will include the construction of 68 units for an investment of around $25 million. With the backing of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the community will be added to the city official’s Clean Tech Lab initiative for the surrounding district.
Nauset Completes Rental Building in Cambridge; Developer Eyes Seaport District for Large Multifamily Project
Nauset Construction, a real estate development company based in Needham, recently finished converting the former Holmes Building in Central Square in downtown Cambridge into 21 rental units. The $3.5 million redevelopment project was designed by The Architectural Team (TAT) for owner Central Square, LLC, and called for interior and exterior renovations of the former C-shaped, seven-story office building located on Massachusetts Avenue.
Kaiser Permanente Opens The South Baltimore County Corner Medical Center in Halethorpe
Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States, an award-winning not-for-profit health plan and care provider, has opened a new, state-of-the-art medical center this month, in Halethorpe, Maryland. Called the South Baltimore County Corner Medical Center, it will offer ”a broad array of services including specialty and primary care.”
