The International WELL Building Institute has promoted Rachel Gutter to president, a week after the company launched WELL v2, the second version of the WELL Building Standard. Gutter will be replacing Kamyar Vaghar, who occupied the position for two years, and will be based in New York City.

The new president joined IWBI in 2016 as chief product officer, after almost 10 years spent with U.S. Green Building Council, where she served as senior vice president & founding director of the Center for Green Schools. While at IWBI, Gutter helped bring the latest version of WELL to the market.

For more than a year, she tirelessly sought the input of the global WELL community across all disciplines, then systematically channeled that input into a rating system that’s more equitable, global, simpler, clearer and designed for improved return across every metric,” said CEO Rick Fedrizzi in a prepared statement.

A graduate of Tufts University, Gutter is a co-chair of the Garrison Institute’s Board of Directors and serves on the Advisory Board of Paul Hawken’s Drawdown Project aiming to reverse global warming. In 2012, she was conferred the World Green Building Council’s Chairman’s Award.
