Italian Eyewear Firm Creates 1K jobs in Atlanta

Luxottica will create 1,000 jobs through its new production model involving the assembly and distribution of eyewear at the same plant.

Atlanta—Italian eyewear designer, manufacturer and distributor, Luxottica Group, recently announced the expansion of its metro Atlanta distribution facility. The company behind Ray-Ban, Oakley and Dolce & Gabbana will create 1,000 jobs by the end of this year, including positions in administration, production and distribution.

“Luxottica has been part of the Atlanta community for 20 years and this is a particularly exciting time for us. Growing our footprint here represents a new step in serving our wholesale customers, we will soon be able to produce and deliver a complete pair of prescription frames of the highest quality and perfect fit anywhere in the U.S. within 24 to 48 hours,” Fabrizio Uguzzoni, president of Luxottica Wholesale North America, said in prepared remarks.

Located at 100 Greenwood Industrial Parkway in McDonough, Ga., the facility is the company’s biggest distribution center outside of Italy and China. The expansion will enable Luxottica to assemble and distribute frames and lenses at the same location. The high tech facility serves to distribute frames to Luxottica Retail brands and wholesale customers.

“Luxottica’s expansion is a testament to the impact that Georgia’s logistics network has in both recruiting new business and helping existing Georgia companies grow. Since the e-commerce boom, customers and businesses’ logistical and distribution expectations have risen tremendously, and Georgia is the ideal location to meet those demands as our transportation infrastructure is unrivaled,” GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson, said in prepared remarks.

According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, the existing 183,000-square-foot Atlanta facility opened in 1996 and has centralized various North American facilities into a single state-of-the-art distribution center.Images courtesy of Luxottica
