INTERNATIONAL: Grand Canal Land to Develop Tallest Skyscraper in Southeast Asia
Grand Canal Land is developing a 125-story “Super Tower” as part of Bankgok’s new central business district.

Grand Land Canal is developing a 125-story “Super Tower” as part of Bankgok’s central business district.
The developer has revealed plans for an 18-billion-baht, 615-metre ‘Rama IX Super Tower’ slated for completion in 2019. Located near the intersection of Ratchadapisek Road, the massive tower would be part of Bangkok’s new 1.1-million-square-foot central business district, the Grand Rama 9.
Designed by Architects 49 Ltd., G-Land’s Super Tower will consist of 969 square feet of office space and a ‘six-star’ hotel with 260 rooms, according to the Bangkok Post. If completed, the tower would become the third tallest building in the world and the highest in the entire Asian region. Thailand’s tallest building is currently the Baiyok II tower, topping out at 1077 feet, and the second-tallest is the Mahanakhon condominium tower to be completed in 2016. The Petronas twin towers in Kuala Lumpur are currently the tallest buildings in Southeast Asia, at 1230 feet.
The Super Tower is only one of several buildings planned for G-Land’s Grand Rama 9 megaproject, which includes the G-Land Tower, the ninth Tower, the Shoppes at Corridor, a luxury hotel, an office complex, the Belle grand Rama 9 and Central Plaza Grand Rama 9. The Super Tower will feature, among other amenities, an observation deck for tourists and a rooftop garden. Developers will also seek LEED Platinum certification for the building.
