Homewood Suites Opens Its Doors in Milwaukee
The hotel opened in an historic 19th century warehouse building in Milwaukee’s city center following the completion of adaptive reuse work.

Homewood Suites by Hilton has opened a 92-key extended-stay hotel at the historic Button Block Building in downtown Milwaukee, following a $17 million adaptive reuse. Owner Bear Development repositioned the building, which is managed by Kinseth Hospitality Cos.
Located at 500 N. Water St., the new Homewood Suites sits north of Interstate 794 and is a short walk from several stops on the Milwaukee County Transit System’s bus routes. Approximately one mile from the BMO Harris Bradley Center and the site of the Wisconsin Entertainment and Sports Center, the hotel is expected to take advantage of increasing tourism and business travel to Milwaukee.
“With over 22.5 million visitors a year frequenting the Wisconsin Center, the BMO Harris Bradley Center and several Fortune 500 companies, Milwaukee has become a top choice for business and convention travel. Our convenient hotel will meet the growing demand for accommodations and offer a trusted, value-driven option for short or extended stays,” Tammy Fraley, general manager of the hotel, said in prepared remarks.
Built in 1892, the building initially functioned as a warehouse, though the upper floors had been left vacant following a fire in 1992. Since then, the first floor of the building hosted a variety of clubs and restaurants, with the second floor serving as event space. Renovation work began in 2016 after the last tenant, Joey Buona’s, closed its restaurant.
