Historic Tulsa Club Building Up For Sale For $1.35 Million

Only a year after the historic Tulsa Club building appeared to be on the verge of a second life, its future is once again uncertain. Current owner Josh Barrett, who acquired the 87-year-old building at a county auction in April 2013, has put the property up for sale, according to the Tulsa World. The asking price is $1.35 million.

Designed by Bruce, Goff, the 92,000-square-foot building was developed jointly by the Tulsa Club, which occupied the six upper floors, and the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce, which took the lower five floors. According to the Tulsa Preservation Commission, the club’s space originally featured dormitories, office space, a gymnasium, barber shop, men’s lounge, and a roof garden. The building’s interior was laced with Art Deco detailing and ornamentation, while the main entrance was built out of Bedford stone.

After the Tulsa Club went out of business in 1994, however, the building fell into disrepair. It was hit by fire and vandalism, and although a California investor acquired it in 1997, the city levied fines for code violations. Last year the city foreclosed and sold the property it at auction, where it was acquired by Barrett. The new owner considered renovating the building as a mixed-use property and completed some preliminary work before deciding the put it back on the market, according to the Tulsa World.
