Grosse Pointe Farms seniors will benefit from a new housing facility that will be developed by a partnership between Henry Ford Health System, American House Senior Living Communities and Southfield-based Real Estate Development and Investment Company (REDICO) at the Cottage medical center, reports The Detroit News.

While the Henry Ford medical facility at 159 Kercheval Avenue will continue to operate as an outpatient center, more than 50 senior apartments will be developed on the building’s second, third and fourth floors. These will include:

–          One- and two-bedroom private apartment and studio units for independent seniors

–          One- and two-bedroom private apartment and studio units for seniors who require assistance

–          One- and two-bedroom private apartment and studio units for seniors with Alzheimer’s and other memory-related conditions

The residents will have access to medical services onsite and at the Henry Ford Pierson Clinic located a few steps away, at 131 Kercheval Avenue. Other facilities such as shops, restaurants, a public library and public parking are within walking distance. According to The Detroit News, the construction could begin as early as spring 2012 and it will take approximately one year to complete.

Model D reports that Queen Lillian LLC is expanding its presence in Detroit with help from federal and city authorities. A five-story medical office building will be developed on a 2.7-acre, blighted and semi-vacant lot at 3901 Chrysler Service Drive. The $18 million project—partly financed by the Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, which agreed to offer a $408,647 tax exemption—will create more than 30 full-time construction jobs and will also require relocating and replacing nearby playground equipment and tennis courts. Reportedly, the 62,840-square-foot building’s main tenant will be the Wayne State Department of Psychiatry whose offices are currently scattered among three different buildings in Detroit.
