GOFO has opened its New Jersey Super Hub, a more than 400,000-square-foot logistics facility that is part of its coast-to-coast delivery network.

The company’s largest and most advanced logistics facility in the U.S., also known as EWR Super Hub, rises in Newark, N.J. It features double-deck cross-belt sorters, intelligent sorting logistics systems, robotic automation and a dual-deck throughput of six parcels per second, with the hub processing over 40,000 parcels per hour and handling more than 800,000 parcels daily.

EWR Super Hub is one of the two new distribution and sorting centers that GOFO will open in October, the second one being located in Los Angeles. Once operational, these facilities—the result of a $150 million investment—will expand GOFO’s sorting ability to nearly 540 million packages on an annual basis.

E-commerce growth fuels logistics expansion

E-commerce continues to drive industrial real estate demand nationwide, as the sector’s need for warehouse and logistics space follows the ongoing rise of online shopping.

One of the companies that are expanding but also refining their logistics real estate holdings is Amazon, which announced in April the intent to raise up to $15 billion for purchasing warehouses and distribution sites across the country. The e-commerce giant would target last-mile distribution centers and multi-story fulfillment hubs equipped with advanced technologies.

At the end of the same month, Amazon said it would invest more than $4 billion to expand its U.S. rural distribution network by 2026. This investment would grow the number of Amazon delivery stations to more than 200 and create 100,000 jobs.
