Eco-Conscious Element Hotel Debuts in Illinois

Element Hotels and C-Two Hotels have opened Element Moline, the first eco-conscious hotel in Illinois. The 96-key property incorporates the historic O’Rourke Building, a former warehouse, located at 316 12th St.

The six-story building is part of The Q, a multimodal development that also includes an adjacent train station with service to Chicago. Developer Amin Group worked together with Legat Architects to deliver Element Hotels‘ most recent addition.  

“One of the great things about this adaptive-reuse project is how it has created such a unique property out of a historic landmark building in the city of Moline,” said Mike Amin, owner & managing partner of Amin Group, in a prepared statement. “It has been an exciting project preserving the historic charm of this building while turning it into a stylish and modern destination for the neighborhood and visitors.”

Industrial and eco-friendly features

Element Moline has preserved many details of the original warehouse such as exposed brick and columns in the guest rooms as well as the ceilings and flooring. To give the property a modern, eco-friendly vibe, the designers added several features such as artwork from repurposed and recycled materials, low VOC paint, a filtered water system, and LED lighting. Amenities include an indoor saline lap pool, an 830-square-foot fitness center and access to the Bikes to Borrow program.

The hotel also incorporates 16,000 square feet of retail space and a glass pavilion serving as a train station. The property can be accessed via River Drive, off Interstate 74.
