The first stage of a multimillion-dollar project in Centerville is nearing completion. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the city’s new Megaplex Theatres will open to the public in October. The 90,000-square-foot theater and dining complex will feature 14 screens, 3,400 seats, a 2D/3D IMAX screen and D-box motion seats.
According to Centerville City’s official Web site, the initial phase of the Parrish-Legacy Crossing development project includes, alongside the theater complex, a 60,000-square-foot family entertainment center, 252 apartment units totaling 233,370 square feet and 52,000 square feet of retail space.
Over the next few years, the city anticipates additional development within the project area, forecast to include 550,000 to 600,000 square feet of retail, Class A office and residential development.
Centerville City manager Steve Thacker confirmed that developers started laying the foundation for 158 apartment units around Aug. 15. He said business owners in Centerville are expecting the theater to attract people to town and residents will finally have a close-to-home option when going out to see a movie. Currently, residents who want to enjoy a movie would have to go to Layton or Salt Lake City.
Over in Salt Lake City, Deseret News reported the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control approved liquor licenses for two restaurants planned for the $1.5 billion mixed-use City Creek Center development. Utah’s second Cheesecake Factory and the state’s first Texas de Brazil Brazilian steakhouse will be joined by three other restaurants that are expected to sign leases in the near future. The 23-acre development is scheduled to be completed in March 2012, and the developers have already unveiled a formal countdown clock as a reminder to passersby. Upon completion, City Creek Center will feature 800,000 square feet of shopping, dining and office space. More than 2,000 people are expected to be employed by its tenants.
