Britax Considering Move to York County; Positec Opens Second Charlotte Site

Britax Child Safety is considering moving its Charlotte-based facilities to neighboring York County. The company currently leases two facilities in Charlotte — a corporate center and assembly operation in South Point Business Park, as well as a final-finishing operation and distribution center in Lakemont Industrial Park. The leases on both facilities expire in March 2013, reports the Charlotte Business Journal.

The new facility, intended to consolidate distribution operations, has a price tag of around $70 million. Three Charlotte developers – Crescent Resources, Red Rock Development and The Keith Corp – are competing to develop the 475,000 square-foot project. When completed, Britax plans to move of all its 200 employees to the new facility, which might be built on 54 acres adjacent to Pleasant Road near Carowinds Boulevard in York County.

Britax Child Safety currently manufactures car seats, strollers and a range of other baby- and infant-care products.

In other news, Positec Tool Corporation has opened a new 185,000 square-foot distribution facility in Huntersville, NC, reports Citybizlist. The new distribution center is located at 13201 Reese Boulevard in Huntersville and brings 20 new jobs to the area, this in addition to the previous 35 Positec added in 2011.

Positec relocated its Long Beach, CA operations to Huntersville in a partnership with Performance Team Inc., the company’s logistics partner. The new retail distribution facility is equipped with features that weren’t available at the previous Long Beach facility. The Huntersville space has an integrated warehouse management system with scanned technology that eliminates the necessity of paper.

Positec’s warehouse also features a number of environmentally friendly elements such as low-voltage lighting and use of recycled materials. The new Huntsville unit fully recycles the corrugated boxes, plastic strapping and pallet wrap used to package China-shipped products. The offices also have a recycling protocol for paper, cans and plastic bottles.

Positec Tool Corporation currently manufactures and markets power tools, lawn and garden equipment and accessories under the Rockwell and WORX brands.
