Bon Secours Breaks Ground on New Cancer Institute in Suffolk

Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System is building a new medical facility in the city of Suffolk. The Bon Secours Harbour View Medical Plaza officially broke ground on Thursday, September 10. Suffolk Mayor Linda Johnson was present at the ceremony, along with other leaders at Bon Secours.

The $20 million project calls for the construction of a 58,000-square-foot building just east of the Bon Secours Health Center at 7185 Harbour Towne Parkway. This two-story facility will house the Bon Secours Cancer Institute at Harbour View and will feature a radiation therapy center, high dose radiation therapy, a chemotherapy infusion center, nurse navigators and support and counseling services. Space for physician practices will also be available. Bon Secours announced that CBRE will be in charge of lease negotiations.

W.M. Jordan will construct the new Medical Plaza after designs by the Odell architecture firm. The project is scheduled to be completed by September 2016.

“The new Bon Secours Harbour View Medical Plaza will have a tremendous impact on the service and care for people with cancer in the western Hampton Roads community,” Michael Kerner, CEO of Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System, said in a statement. “Our community continues to suffer from high morbidity and mortality rates related to cancer, and we aim to lower these rates and ultimately provide a more convenient, complete center for patients and their families.”

“By bringing all the outpatient cancer treatment services together on one campus, we have the opportunity to improve access, ensure that our patients have enhanced coordination of care and ultimately make an impact on cancer morbidity and mortality rates,” added Joseph Oddis, CEO of Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.
