Avalon Solar Park One Step Closer to Completion

Avalon Solar, the 35 MW renewable energy project in south-central Arizona is under construction and the development has recently reached an important milestone, as Array Technologies Inc.  has successfully shipped the solar trackers to the site for installation.

Headquartered in Albuquerque, N.M., Array Technologies specializes in on-ground, mount fixed-rack and solar tracking solutions for utility, commercial and residential solar electric systems. The company shipped and installed trackers for photovoltaic projects worldwide with the total output of more than 2 gigawatts.

Swinerton Renewable Energy, the company that is building the solar farm, has chosen Array’s DuraTrack™ HZ single-axis solar tracker for the project, largely due to its fast and easy installation procedure. Components of the equipment come pre-kitted and both companies will play a part in the process of installing the trackers. Despite being long-term partners, this is the first time the two firms are working together in Arizona.

Located about 23 miles south of Tucson’s central area, near Sahuarita, Avalon Solar will feature a number of advanced features and recent innovations, such as  a fully bolted solution, module clamps with integrated grounding and an improved 120-degree tracking range of motion.  As previously reported, the PV project also known as Pima Mine Road Solar Generating Facility is under terms of a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with Tucson Electric Power. Once completed, the 35 MW plant will generate enough electricity to power north of 7,000 households.
