By Paul Rosta, Senior Editor Amid a rising note of optimism, commercial real estate executives expect a variety of property types to shine over the next 12 months, according to the CPE 100 Quarterly Sentiment Survey. Asked which category is likely to present the most attractive investment opportunities, executives divided their responses fairly evenly among different sectors. One third called the office sector the most promising, and about 25 percent each said that the retail and multifamily sectors would provide the strongest investment potential over the next 12 months. IPO Scorecard: Offerings by year since 2004
First Filings (Commercial real estate IPOs, 2004-2012) Since the most recent heyday eight years ago, initial public offerings by REITs have tailed off significantly, according to SNL Financial and the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. The 29 IPOs launched in 2004 were more than the combined total of the next four years. After recording only a pair of IPOs in the capital markets meltdown year of 2008, REITs have rebounded to launch eight or nine in the three full years since.
