Total existing U.S. home sales rose 1.5 percent in October month over month. A greater number of Americans are predicted to travel this year for Thanksgiving.

Private U.S. housing starts in October were down 2.8 percent compared to last month. The Federal Open Market Committee concluded that U.S. economic activity continued to expand at a “moderate pace.”

Builder confidence in the market for newly built single-family homes rose four points to 58 on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index. E-commerce sales during the third quarter of 2014 totaled $78.1 billion, an increase of 4 percent compared with the second quarter.

U.S. industrial production edged down 0.1 percent in October after having advanced 0.8 percent in September. Japan surprised the world over the weekend with word that its economy, the world’s third largest, shrank an annualized 1.6 percent during the three months ending in September.

Americans increased their retail and food service spending by 0.3 percent in October compared with September. The delinquency rate for mortgage loans on one-to-four-unit residential properties decreased to 5.85 percent at the end of the third quarter of 2014. Though consumers are still a little edgy about current conditions, their expectations are more optimistic now.
