Marriott International, along with Redburn Development have broken ground on The Wick, an adaptive reuse project that will transform a former candle and soap manufacturing facility into a full-service boutique hotel in Hudson, N.Y.
As part of the Tribute Portfolio, Marriott‘s newest brand of worldwide independent hotels, the 55-key hotel will feature a residential lobby bar and lounge, a conference/meeting room and a rooftop event space with views of Hudson Valley. Originally built in the 1860s, the property was first used as a soap and candle factory, then converted into a textile manufacturing facility and later into a knitting mill. As a historic preservation project, a nomination to the National and State Historic Registers is underway, ensuring that 41 Cross St. will maintain the architectural integrity of its history.
“Hudson has become a home away from home for those in the know, and is gaining momentum as a sought-after destination with its indie-spirit and vibrant social scene,” said Julius Robinson, vice president & global brand lead for the Tribute Portfolio, in prepared remarks. “The Wick Hotel will be a perfect fit for the Tribute Portfolio brand, both reflecting this eclectic and energetic community and embodying what discerning travelers are seeking today: sincere service and spontaneous independent moments that bring a destination to life.”
