Wight & Co. Hires Sustainability Expert

John Mlade will occupy the senior project manager position and will be in charge of overseeing the company’s sustainable design projects.

Wight & Co. has hired John Mlade as senior project manager within the company’s office in Chicago, the recently awarded LEED Platinum city. Mlade will use his two decades of experience in sustainability consulting and research to help Wight & Co. deliver resource-efficient buildings.

Prior to joining his current employer, the LEED Fellow and WELL Building expert held senior roles with firms such as WSP USA, Perkins + Will and Martin-Brower. He has also served on more than a dozen national and local committees and boards, including HDP Collaborative, the City of Chicago Sustainable Development Policy Working Group, National Institutes of Health and Center for Living Environments and Regeneration. Mlade is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and has a master of science degree in construction management and green building from Colorado State University, as well as an MBA from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Wight & Co. is a founding member of the U.S. Green Building Council and one of the signatories of the AIA 2030 Commitment, which works toward shifting the industry to carbon-neutral buildings. The company has completed more than 80 LEED-registered and -certified projects, the most recent one being the first net-zero recreational facility in the country. The project is located in Plainfield, Ill.
