Baton Rouge is getting a new luxury apartment complex. The Wampold Companies has finally started work on the Bayonne at Southshore, a luxury rental community on Stanford Avenue.

According to The Advocate, the project is expected to cost about $42 million. The Bayonne at Southshore will be constructed at 900 Stanford Ave. The 5.5-acre site was once the home of the old One Lakeshore Place Apartments. Wampold purchased the property in 1985, and demolished it last September, to make way for the new development.

Mike Wampold, the founder and owner of Wampold Companies, told The Advocate that he believes The Bayonne at Southshore will be one of Baton Rouge’s finest residential rental communities. The multifamily complex will offer 240 units and many amenities, including garage parking, a resort-style pool, a clubhouse, and a fitness center.

The Bayonne at Southshore will have a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units, ranging in size from 750 square feet to 1,400 square feet. The Times Picayune reported that rents will start from $1,000 per month for a one-bedroom unit.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Golden Construction is the general contractor, with Coleman Partners of Baton Rouge as architect. Construction of the Bayonne at Southshore is expected to be completed by the summer of 2016.
