A new supermarket is now open in Baltimore. ShopRite of Howard Park is the largest grocery store in the city and the first to be constructed in the Howard Park area since 1999. It is also the first supermarket opened by Klein’s Family Markets in Baltimore City.

Baltimore’s $170 million State of Maryland Public Health Laboratory is finally open. Governor Martin O’Malley, Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and many other federal, state and local officials were present on July 22, at the Science + Technology Park at Johns Hopkins in East Baltimore, to cut the ceremonial ribbon for the new state-of-the-art facility.

Petro Waste Environmental Proposes $5M Oil-Field Waste Disposal Site
San Antonio-based Petro Waste Environmental, a company that provides environmental services, has proposed an oil-field waste disposal and treatment site for a 204-acre piece of land in Nordheim, DeWitt County, one of Eagle Ford Shale’s busiest drilling areas. The application has been presented to the Texas Railroad Commission for the second time, after being denied in 2013 because of the risk the proposed facility inflicted on the area, possibly causing or allowing pollution to surface or subsurface waters and because of protests by local residents.

Global Healthcare REIT to Expand in Ohio with Nursing Home Acquisition
Utah-based Global Healthcare REIT, Inc. announced at the end of July its plans to expand into Ohio. The company has entered into an agreement to purchase the Meadowview Nursing Home, located in Seville, Ohio. It will be the fifth such property in Global Healtchare REIT’s portfolio.
New VRE Rail Station to Open in Potomac Shores Master-Planned Community in 2017
Northern Virginia is getting a new rail station. Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe was present on July 31 in Prince William County, together with many other federal, state, local and railroad officials, to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Virginia Railway Express (VRE) station. The new station will be part of the Potomac Shores master-planned community and is scheduled to open in 2017.
